According to several sources, the symposium organized by the CAF in Rabat, on 18 and 19 July, will definitely increase the specifications as of AfCON 2019, in particular by requiring the host country six host cities instead of four until then.
Already appointed organizer of this edition, Cameroon will have to conform to this new gigantism. If this were not the case, Morocco would be ready to supply it, said Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Moroccan Federation and Vice-President of CAF.
“The symposium will decide in relation to the specifications and the organization of the AfCON in general. The conclusions of this panel will concern the 2019 edition. Cameroon was to organize it in an old format. Cameroon will be able to fulfill the new specifications, we will know in the next few days. In case of non-capacity, the opening to the application of other countries will be announced. Morocco will be in the race, “said Fouzi Lekjaa in an interview with the Moroccan newspaper L’Economiste.
And the leader gave a historical reminder: “Morocco will not hesitate a second to respond favorably to a CAF grievance to house this AfCON. Moreover, in 2015, because of the Ebola epidemic, Cameroon’s management has deprived us of the organization of this competition. In 2019, we will replace Cameroon to host the AfCON. It is the revenge of history. “
With its six cities already equipped with FIFA stadia (Agadir, Casablanca, Marrakech, Rabat, Tangier and Fez), the kingdom is already ready. In Cameroon, preparations are evolving at the turtle’s pace. The eyes are now turned towards Rabat, waiting for a possible sentence.
