Cameroon – Telecom: Thanks to the Smart Africa Alliance, the costs of roaming will be reduced between Cameroon and Gabon

Written by Gisele Alba

During a recent meeting between the heads of telecoms regulators in Gabon and Cameroon, the parties resolved to reduce the cost of roaming between Gabon and Cameroon.

This reduction in costs will be made, thanks to the construction of infrastructures allowing direct telecoms links between the two countries, thus avoiding transits to foreign countries which contribute to increase the costs of roaming. This ambition, it was learned from good sources, will be realized within the framework of the Smart Africa Alliance, which includes Cameroon and Gabon.

Launched in 2013 on the initiative of Rwandan President Paul Kagame, this partnership of several African countries and telecom equipment manufacturers such as Huawei and Ericsson aims to bridge the digital divide in sub-Saharan Africa with other regions of the world , and to bring the ICT to the heart of the development of the continent.
