Cameroon – Russian 2017: A new African record set by the Lions

The kick-off of the 10th edition is going to be given on June 17 and Cameroon which  enters the arena next Sunday counts the most number of appearances in this competition with regard to the African countries.

In Russia, Cameroon is participating for the third time in its history at the FIFA Confederations Cup. Egypt, Nigeria and South Africa have two appearances in the Tournament of Champions, while Côte d’Ivoire and Tunisia have had to settle for one participation.

Along with the largest number of participations, the Indomitable Lions also signed the best performance of an African nation at this level. If in 2001, the Cameroonians did not cross the group stage, they did much better two years later: after finishing at the top of their section, they played the final against France, which won after a goal of Thierry Henry in extra time.

In Group B of the Confederations Cup 2017, Cameroon will face Germany, Australia and Chile, its first opponent next Sunday.
