Cameroon – Yaounde: A prisoner on a hunger strike urgently evacuated to hospital

Written by Deckson N.

He refuses to eat, does not talk to anyone and has been doing it since his admission to the health facility.

On the night of Friday, June 09, a patient was interned in a hospital ward at the Yaounde Police Academy. The patient was uneasy while he was being held in police custody in Yaounde. Since his internment in the health facility, the patient did not say a single word.

The medical staff is distraught and does not know how to help him, because the patient refuses to say where he is in pain. He also refuses to eat, despite the flattery of the nurses, who do not know if he has family in the city. The medical staff still administers infusions, at least to keep him hydrated.

However, given that he has not moved from his bed since Friday, the custodian relieves himself on the spot, which ails the patients who share the hospital room with him. Even if the nurses clean him, the other patients are sometimes forced out to breathe good air.
