Cameroon – 2018 Presidential Election: Another new candidate to face Biya

Written by Deckson N.

The race for the 2018 presidential election began in Cameroon.

With more than 17 months to its due date, the next Cameroonian presidential election already carries covetousness. New faces will be announced and will face the outgoing president Paul Biya surrounded by “a group of old people” according to his own words.

On Saturday, the young founding president of the Parti uni pour la Rénovation Sociale (PURS), Serge Espoir Matomba, councilor in Douala 4 officially declared his candidacy in the economic capital.

With a charisma proven, Serge Espoir Matomba, does not intend to miss the train of history, that of the 2018 presidential election whose preparations including the update of the electoral register are evolving rapidly.

In an interview with the media in May 2017, Serge Espoir Matomba said he dreams of a Cameroon where the education system needs to be reformed quickly. A system in which 88% of Cameroonians should be oriented towards purely technical training and only 12% to literature science.

He also intends to restore a desire to dream of the Cameroonian youth by making them become what they should have been, that is to say a well-educated, well-trained, enterprising youth.

They have betrayed the development of Cameroon. They sacrificed our generation. We at PURS are not going to do the same. We are going to give young people more desire to become what we have not been able to become. We must create the dream. Young people need reference, “he said.
