Cameroon – Camrail: A new COD, and two new DMDs in appointed. Consequences of the Eseka railway disaster?

A new Top Management was created in Camrail at the end of a session of the Board of Directors of this company in charge of the railway network in Cameroon.

Hamadou Sali, the chairman of Camrail’s board of directors and its managing director Didier Vandenbon, decided to resign from their respective positions following a meeting of the Camrail board of directors held on Friday, June 09, 2017. If the reasons for the unexpected departure of the COD were not mentioned, the communiqué issued at the close of the Council clearly indicates that the Director-General has decided to resign in order to make himself fully available to the files relating to the Eseka railway disaster of 21 October 2016.

To replace the resignation, the Board appointed Aboubakar Abbo, new Chairman of the Board, Morel Jean Pierre, new CEO and Nkana Pondy Gilbert and Ossock Michel Deputy Managing Directors.

CAMRAIL, a subsidiary of Bolloré Africa Logistics, has been a concession holder of the Cameroonian railway since 1999. CAMRAIL is a major player in the economic and social development of Cameroon. It invests 12 billion CFA francs per year in the maintenance of railway infrastructure and equipment. The company pays CFAF 10 billion a year to the State of Cameroon for royalties and taxes. For the 15 years of concession, CAMRAIL has made 180 billion investments, 150 billion in the state budget (taxes), 80% reduction rate of derailments (from 250 in 1999 to 20 in 2014).
