Cameroon – Chinese Laptops: Paul Biya’s 500,000 computers might be available

Announced for more than a year by the President of the Republic, the campaign for the “Chinese Laptops” has finally started.

In a statement signed by the rector of the University of Yaoundé 1, we acknowledged that a provisional list of eligible students for this program is posted in each institution.

For this purpose, any student who has not seen his/her name in this pre-list is asked to inform himself/herself at the level of their Head of Institution, for a regularization of the situation. In order to benefit from the rest of the procedure, all students are required to finalize the online posting of their personal information on or before June 15, 2017.

It is since 2015 that President Paul Biya began by courting the youth by pushing them into the digital sector, a sector he calls as an important one.

While it is true that his computers are going to serve students who need them for their training, some analysts see in this action a way for the president to improve the image of a head of state who does not have unanimity .
