Cameroon – Culture: The capital of Cameroon has its very first gallery of contemporary art

Written by Deckson N.

The first contemporary art gallery in the city of Yaoundé was inaugurated on 30 May by Minister of Arts and Culture Narcisse Mouelle Kombi and French Ambassador to Cameroon Gilles Thibault.

Led by the Cameroonian government and the French Embassy, the renovation and fitting out of the building housing the new gallery were carried out under the Cameroon-France De-Debt and Development Agreement (C2D).

According to the explanations of the French diplomatic representation, this new space now offers young Cameroonian artists the opportunity to carry out exhibitions and exchange.

From 30 May to 31 July 2017, this gallery will host an exhibition entitled “Cheminement(s), art contemporain au Cameroun“, which brings together 23 Cameroonian artists. The event brings together the works of confirmed artists and young talents, all disciplines combined: painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, video.

The forty exhibits thus offer visitors the image of a lively, diverse and original artistic creation.
