Cameroon – Tax: The reforms of the property tax allowed the Cameroonian taxpayers to mobilize 4 billion FCFA in 2016

Minister of Finance (Minfi), Alamine Ousmane Mey is pleased with recent reforms on the tax on land ownership. Namely, the implementation of the pre-filled declaration, payment by mobile phone as well as a tax amnesty.

According to Minfi, in a communiqué signed on May 17, 2017, these reforms enabled the tax authorities to mobilize, in the course of the 2016 financial year, for the benefit of the decentralized territorial authorities (CTD) “exceptional” revenues of 4.3 billion FCFA against an annual return of 1.7 billion of this tax before the said reforms.

The Minister of Finance congratulates all landowners who demonstrated taxpaying citizenship in the course of recovery operations in 2016. He also encourages those who have been in good standing to comply with the law by subscribing and paying their land tax. This will prevent future tax incentives and penalties.

In any event, the authorities are continuing the reflection in order to continue to offer landowners additional facilities for the declaration and payment of the tax on land ownership“, concludes Alamine Ousmane Mey.
