Following an emergency meeting held in Djibouti on 7 May 2017, the ANOCA Executive Committee stated that it “has documents that raise serious concerns about the independence of Mr. Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, One of the candidates for the post of President of ANOCA “. These documents, says ANOCA, indicate that Kalkaba Malboum has received funding from the Cameroonian government in its campaign. What is proscribed.

According to this body, the chairman of the African Athletics Confederation was also heard during the abovementioned meeting of the Emergency Committee. Kalkaba Malboum acknowledged receiving financial support from the State of Cameroon, but challenged the purpose of the funding.

Explanations that clearly did not convince the members of the ANOCA Emergency Committee that decided to dismiss the Cameroonian. His only challenger, the Ivorian general Lassana Palenfo is now only candidate in the running. The elective General Assembly is scheduled to take place from 9 to 11 May in Djibouti. Emmanuel Tataw, a spokesman for Kalkaba, has promised to lodge an appeal.
