Faced with a sharp fall of around 30-40% of cocoa prices on the international market, Trade Minister Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana has just given professionals three weeks to propose urgent solutions to the problem out of crisis.

The Minister of Trade called for the establishment of a think-tank bringing together the National Office of Cocoa and Coffee (Oncc) and the main families of the profession, around the public authorities, to examine the best way to the new cocoa season 2017-2018.

For the record, the price per kilogram on the field in May 2017 is around 800 FCFA compared to 1600 CFA francs during the same period in 2016. The Minister of trade believes that it is important that special efforts are made so that Cameroon could transform its cocoa so that it could consume some, if not most of it, at the national or subregional level.
