According to Sam Thamin, general manager of the project on behalf of Piccini Construction, the company has been in operation since March 2016. It has been a year lost because of various harassment and administrative delays.

To make up for this delay, “it means importing prefabricated parts to be installed directly on the site, instead of building everything on site. It will also be necessary to rent boats to transport everything to Cameroon. In short, we will do what is necessary to catch up with the deadlines that are imperative, “says the GM, interviewed by Cameroon Tribune.

In its Friday edition, the government newspaper reported that the Italian company has already completed the earth moving of the site of 320,000 m2. The financing, 199 billion francs, are completed, but the construction work is slow to start.

If the Olembe stadium is to host of the AFCON 2019 matches, which are played in January, the infrastructure must be completed three months before, ie in September 2018, according to CAF requirements. Therefore, until the technical and financial issues are resolved, the company has deforested the site of 320,000 m2, equivalent to about 15 kilometers of road. It’s finishing with the embankments.

At the same time, “we are working on the construction plan and the foundation studies, without which we can not start the construction of structures, most of the parts of which will be manufactured outside. This is the only solution to meet the 15-month deadlines that remain before CAF’s inspection, “says Sam Thamin.

The Olembe Stadium is located about 13 km from Yaoundé. With a capacity of 60000 seats, this covered stadium will feature a natural grass play area with FIFA standards, two training stadiums, commercial spaces and accommodation facilities. The cost of the work is CFAF 163 billion.
