The former Minister of Posts and Telecommunications (MINPOSTEL) applied to the first instance court for a remedy in recognition of that child he had in 1974.

Jean-Pierre Biyiti Bi Essam wants to regularize the marital status of Jean Paul Serges, his 43-year-old eldest son currently employed by Cameroon radio and television as a shooting technician. The latter was the result of a relationship between the former state clerk and Dame Eyenga in 1974. Both parents were still students at Notre Dame College in the southern region. And it is by means of recourse recognition that the former MINPOSTEL seized the court of first instance of Yaoundé, in Ekounou.

On 18 April, the review of appeals took place in the presence of the mother of the child whose recognition is sought. During this meeting, Mr. Biyiti Bi Essam explained that since the birth of his eldest son, who has always lived with him, he has fulfilled all the duties of a parent in relation to his child. ” one reads in the newspaper Kalara of Tuesday May 2, 2017.

However, despite the parental attention spoken by the former minister, the judge wanted to know why the recognition of his son only intervenes 43 years later. “I have not done it since due to third party reasons. I have to say that I had put together a file that I handed over to my lawyer after having taken it out of my archives “, justified the former MINPOSTEL, without providing any further details.

Nevertheless, according to the words of Mrs Eyenga, the mother, the paternity of her child is not to be doubted. “It’s his child. I was still small when I got him. He is the only man I knew at the time, “she told the court. For his part, Jean Paul Serges has no doubt about his origins: “Mr. Biyiti Bi Essam is my father. He’s the one I’ve been with since I was 5 years old. ” The judge fixed the pronunciation of the verdict for May 17.
