Tanzanian President John Magufuli dismissed 9,932 officials last Friday after a government report revealed that their credentials and qualifications were fake.
Indeed, President John Magufuli made the announcement on state television after receiving a report following a check on the officials’ diplomas. “The 9,932 officials recruited on the basis of false diplomas will not receive their salary in April and must resign immediately,” he said. He added that the salaries of 9,000 additional employees for the month of April should be retained after finding this fact.
They will be replaced as soon as possible by “qualified persons“, he added, while calling on the local media to disseminate the list of offending officials.
The President immediately ordered the dismissed officials to be brought before the courts, so that they could be tried and convicted, as stipulated by law.
“They’re thieves like other thieves. You can not work if you do not have recognized qualifications, “said John Magufuli. For these cases of fraud, the punishment can go up to 7 years of imprisonment, according to the law.
President Magufuli revealed that the government was losing Sh 19.84 billion monthly or Sh 238.1 billion a year due to ghost workers.
