The agents of the Cameroon Ministry of Wildlife and Forest of the Eastern Region, with the support of the Last Great Ape Organization (LAGA) NGO, have just got their hands on a young man of 37 years, In possession of a cargo of 100 kg of pangolin scales.
The operation took place in the locality of Messamena, it is learned. According to our sources, the young trafficker had been under surveillance for several months, since he was suspected of maintaining a distribution network of pangolin scales extending to the cities of Yaoundé and Douala, the two capitals of Cameroon.
In Cameroon, pangolin is one of the protected species. As a result, the trafficker arrested, who is currently in the hands of Cameroonian justice, faces up to three years’ imprisonment, according to the laws in force in the country.
