Cameroon – Douala: The Public prosecutor wants to end the fanciful police custody in police stations

The Public prosecutor at the Littoral Court of Appeal, based in Douala in the economic capital, wants to put an end to the fanciful police custody in the police stations during preliminary investigations of the judicial police officers.

Jean Claude Awala, the Public prosecutor at the Littoral Court of Appeals, who lambasted the arbitrary arrests, the corruption of the judicial police officers, also denounced the fact that the police stations were transformed into agencies for the recovery of debts owed by third parties to the State, or to other complainants.

The fanciful arrests, the state official said, affect the functioning of justice.

The judicial police officers must work in accordance with the canons prescribed by the legislation in force,” Magistrate Jean Claude Awala said on Friday in Douala.
