412 microfinance institutions approved in Cameroon for the year 2017

The Cameroonian Minister of Finance, Alamine Ousmane Mey, has just released the list of 412 microfinance institutions approved and consequently authorized to carry out their activities on Cameroonian territory during the year 2017.

This list, which included 500 establishments in 2015, compared to 418 in 2016, continues to be reduced, mainly because of the withdrawal of authorization issued against some of these structures and the management problems they are facing these last days.

Indeed, after the bankruptcies of Cofinest and Fiffa, a few years ago, Crédit Mutuel and Comeci were in turmoil, the société financière africaine (SFA) was placed in liquidation, while approval was purely and simply withdrawn from Binum Tontine, Djagui du Cameroun and Mutuelle de développement et d’investissement du Cameroun (Mdic).
