Yves Martial Madiba is demanding more than 700 million FCFA of tax on works on the Kribi-Edea highway.

The Mayor of Kribi I, Yves Martial Madiba, has just seized 22 trucks belonging to the China Engeneering Company (CHEC) at work on the construction of the highway to link Kribi to Edea. According to Le Messager of Monday 12 December 2016, this catch is the result of an operation launched in the framework of the forced collection of certain taxes including that of the transport of quarry products. “The law is clear. CHEC must pay for the transportation of aggregates from the quarries or at least from the quarry used for the city’s work, “says the Mayor of Kribi I.

Also, from the time of the seizure, the leaders of the Chinese company visited the Council on Friday, December 9, 2016, wishing the release of trucks with only argument that the contract signed with the State of Cameroon, exempted the company from any tax. Unfortunately, they were faced with a declaration of inadmissibility on the part of the Council which claims the company the sum of 756 million FCFA.

According to the newspaper, Mayor Madiba is determined to go to the end of the procedure, and does not intend to yield to any pressure, even if to attract the wrath of the State. “Perhaps I would be crushed tomorrow, but I would have had the law and I would have interpreted the law. We are demanding this money from CHEC and no truck will leave without all the arrears we are claiming, “he said.

Note that work on the Kribi-Edéa road is at a standstill. In addition to what the Council of kribi I claims from CHEC, is now added nearly two million FCFA of costs of seizure.
