Last Saturday, the indomitable Lionesses crossed the line with the Nigerian Football selection as part of the final counting for the 10th edition of the Women AFCON. At the end of the match, Cameroonian footballers fell in front of the Nigeria Falcons on a score of one goal to zero.
A defeat at home that was very difficult to digest, especially since the Lionesses evolved in front of their Head of State and all the Cameroonian public. It was then that the big striker of the lionesses and “record women” of goals (46 in national selection) thanked the Cameroonian people for their support with tears in their eyes. Visibly very affected by this defeat, Michelle Ngono Manie who is at the end of her career, wanted to apologize for this defeat and to thank the Cameroonian people for the support.
“Thank you all for being here. I beg your pardon for the awkwardness certainly due to pressure and heavy responsibility. I cry Because I think of you who were at the stadium, you who supported us in all the cities of Cameroon. It’s painful to see the stadium go dark. You have supported us to the end. Thank you very much“.
It should also be noted that Ngono Manie was very shocked by her multiple unfulfilled goal opportunities. Indeed, the Cameroon striker did not manage to put the ball in the net when she found herself face to face with the Nigerian goalkeeper. A missed opportunity that had caused an enormous pinch in the heart of Ngono Manie and even to all Cameroonians. Because it was “an opportunity that would’ve changed the course of the match if Ngono Manie had managed to put the ball in the back of the net,” says a fan of the Lionesses.
