The president of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM) party has just released a press release in which he also asks students to file a complaint against their executioners.
It is an information relayed by the daily Mutations edition of December 2, 2016. Maurice Kamto, president of the CRM party calls for the resignation of the Rector of the University of Buea. In his press release, he asked the students of this state university to lodge a complaint against their torturers. So that the latter and “their clients” should be punished.
“After speaking on November 23rd, about the events that have shaken the North West Region and especially Bamenda, it is once again with great difficulty that I address you about the Police repression of the student demonstration of 28 November 2016 on the campus of the University of Buea, capital of the South-West Region, “said Maurice Kamto in the press release.
We know that after lawyers and teachers, the students of the University of Buea observed strikes, against the backdrop of the demand, among other things, the excellence bonus of the Head of State which grants any student with an average equal to or greater than 12 out of 20, the sum of 50 000 FCFA. This demonstration of the students had been repressed by the forces of order. 150 of these demonstrators were arrested last Monday. Reacting to this, Maurice Kamto writes: “Freedom of expression is a constitutional principle in our country and therefore students have the right to peacefully express their opinion on all subjects related to their studies.“
He continued: “On Monday, 28 November 2016, at the request of the Vice Chancellor, the authorities launched the security forces to attack the campus and the student’s private residences, which inflicted torture, cruel, inhuman treatment. So for all the perpetrators of these gross violations to be answerable for their crimes, the Government must immediately order the initiation of an investigation, search for and punish the perpetrators, the Vice-Chancellor of the University De Buea must resign or be removed from office as soon as possible “.
