Cameroon – CPDM: Militants angry as there was no food for them after they attended a “thank you” rally for Paul Biya

It was on Saturday, September 24, 2016, during a meeting of thanks to the Head of State for the appointment of Cyrus Ngo’o as Managing Director of the Authority Port of Douala.

Following the appointment of Cyrus Ngo’o as MD of the Authority Port of Douala, a thank you meeting to the Head of State was held last Saturday in the town of Abong-Mbang, capital of the Upper Nyong division, in the Eastern Region. But the enthusiasm of the CPDM militants who mobilized for this happy occasion was short-lived.

According to the daily Le Messager of Tuesday, September 27, 2016, thousands of militants who came for the occasion were left to themselves. “It is unacceptable that us adults,  had a whole day in the sun without swallowing a single glass of water,” growls a militant. In addition, the newspaper said, following the program of the event, the basic militants were to have “the sum of 2,000 FCFA for refreshment.” Unfortunately, the people of Abong-Mbang complain that they had “nothing to eat” and CPDM militants from elsewhere had to manage by themselves at the end of the rally to return to their respective bases. In the process, no traditional dance group that came for the ceremony received a penny from the organizing committee.

Something that perplexed and got angry militants, who however, came by the thousands to attend the ceremony. “We can not bring artists like Govinal and many others, to pay them with hundreds of thousands, just to tell us at the end there is no money to pay the taxi to the militants, “fumed a militant who vows not to take part in this kind of political demonstration again.
