Cameroon – Prison Break: A Boko Haram member shot dead after he tried escaping from prison!

Shots were heard around noon this Saturday, September 10, 2016 in the Maroua Central Prison.

One source of this prison, an inmate tried to escape. Unable to catch him, he was shot by a prison guard. Our source was not yet in possession of the identity of the prisoner killed when he gave the information. However, he indicated that the detainee was part of suspected Boko Haram members placed under arrest for almost two years.

At war against the Islamic sect from Nigeria since 2013, the Cameroonian authorities and the defense and security forces have claimed more than a thousand members of Boko Haram prisoners. The majority incarcerated in the central prison in Maroua. They were nearly 800, according to an estimate of the authorities carried out in May, 2016.

To date, on the 1600 prisoners on that account the great prison of the regional capital of the Far North, more than half are dangerous suspected members of Boko Haram. Several have already been tried and sentenced to death.
