Cameroon – Embezzlement: Billions of FCFA of VAT in the pockets of individuals

The Value Added Tax (VAT) do not always fall into the coffers of the State of Cameroon. According to the Daily Emergence of 9 August 2016, the State of Cameroon continues to lose large sums of money.

Reason being, agents or service providers do not pay back the VAT on joint activities between them. The newspaper reports that the case quite evocative about it is the business of the named Andela Sylvestre Marcelin at the Special Criminal Court (SCC). The latter is accused of embezzlement totaling nearly 71 million CFA Francs. According Emergence, this case did discovered that the Finance Ministry is robbed. For Mr. Andela Sylvestre Marcelin, a service provider, is being accused of not having paid to the State of Cameroon over 70.703 million CFA Francs. A sum that according to the SCC rightfully belongs to the state.

They are many of them who have gotten their hands on the VAT: Charles Metouck, sentenced to 10 years in prison for embezzling 406 million CFA Francs, Abah Abah, Joseph Edou and some of their employees … Fortunately, justice was seized of problem by imposing on the accused, exemplary sanctions.
