Cameroon – Douala: When rain employs young people in the Economic capital

Written by Deckson N.

Some make between 3000 and 4000 of FCFA daily income in small businesses related to the rains.

Young people in Douala are desperate to making money honestly. Some have therefore found a very original way to achieve this goal. They created several small trades around the rains that befell often in the economic capital, as is the case now in the rainy season.

Unable to move because of the floods, some people are transported by youths on their backs, against payment of an amount that varies between 100 and 200 FCFA. La Nouvelle Expression (LNE) wrote about it in its columns on newsstands August 3, 2016.

This activity seems to really help the young workers. Some earn between 3,000 and 4,000 FCFA daily. Something that enables these flood soldiers to save 18 000 FCFA every week, amounting to 200 000 FCFA at the end of the rainy season.
