Many people have to pay FCFA 1000 to enter in the public health facility.

New unethical practices have set up at the regional hospital of Maroua. Indeed, for some time now, many visitors experience the scam of nightwatchmen that require them to pay the sum of 1,000 FCFA to enter into the hospital by night, reveals the weekly newspaper Repères of Wednesday, July 27, 2016.

It’s on 13 July that the case was discovered. “I was informed that my little brother was involved in an accident and he is at the emergency department of the regional hospital in Maroua. So I rushed to get to his bedside. Arrived at the hospital, the posted guards asked me FCFA 1000 to let me pass, “says Salihou a victim. This practice seems to have rooted itself in the hospital. “Last March, I came to attend to my pregnant daughter who was working around 11PM. The guards asked me to pay the sum of 1,500 FCFA before crossing the portal, “says Aissatou, who could not digest so far this pill.

Similar cases abound in this hospital. Besides that, another major practice is growing in this hospital, the theft of drugs. Some patients admit that drugs disappear mysteriously in the hospital wards, same as in emergencies.

Reached by telephone, the Director of the Maroua hospital was evasive on the topic, the newspaper said. Vohod Diguime, since it is him, speaks of a sabotage campaign by his enemies in the shadows. “There is a group of individuals who want to kill the hospital. I am trying to conduct investigations to dismantle the network of mafia practices installed in the hospital, “he says to our colleague.
