The President of the Republic, Paul Biya, signed this Wednesday, June 29, 2016, a decree appointing Aminatou Ahidjo, as President of Board of Directors of the Palais des Congrès in Yaounde, with benefits in kind provided for by the regulations in force, stated in Article 2 of the Presidential text.
Against the advice of her mother Germaine Ahidjo in exile in Senegal, where is buried Ahmadou Ahidjo the first Head of State of Cameroon after his death in 1989, Aminatou Ahidjo had decided, on her official return to Cameroon, to rally against all odds in 2013 the ranks of the CPDM, the political party of Paul Biya, successor and nemesis of the Ahidjo family.
The act of Aminatou was taken as a betrayal by part of her family and some supporters of the predecessor of Paul Biya. Indiscretions were led to believe that the youngest child of Ahmadou Ahidjo, aged 43, had “sold her soul to the devil” against the promise of being appointed in the next government. These same rumors said that it was a great disappointment when Paul Biya forgot her during the cabinet reshuffle of October 2, 2015.
Political communication specialist, she had disappeared from the scene after the twin legislative and municipal elections of 2013. She is now out of the shadows thanks to the jump seat that offers her the president. The Palais des Congres is an impressive infrastructure for the organization of events in Yaounde.
