The Mboppi neighborhood has the reputation of being one of the dangerous neighborhoods of Douala. It further confirmed on the night of Wednesday 15 to Thursday, June 16, 2016, with a shooting that broke out in the premises of the Mboppi Gendarmerie Brigade, located opposite the large market of the same name. And until this morning, the shots did not stopped ringing.
In a deployment, the security forces have cut off traffic in both directions on the busy road separating the Brigade and the market. They also asked traders to take shelter in their trade.
What transformed this part of Mboppi that has a huge population everyday into a war zone? “According to the information I had yesterday around midnight, a gendarme dismissed from the army, came to the Mboppi Brigade. Being a former body, his presence did not particularly aroused suspicion. Except that once inside, after a few minutes chatting with on-call police, he said he wanted to get comfortable. He took the opportunity to recover bags of ammunition and weapons. He wanted to run away, but unfortunately for him, he was spotted by a policeman on duty. Without firing a shot, he hid in the ceiling. That’s where he started shooting when he was asked to go, “said a police source.
Gunfire exchanges took place for a long time. After trying in vain to control the madman, a Commando deployed to the scene eventually brought him down. The investigation will perhaps allow to know the motivations of the fanatic whose identity has not been revealed.
