Many villages in this area are now empty of their populations. Since they consider to be poorly protected, despite the strong deployment of defense and security forces.

On June 8, concordant sources of the community announced that forty fishermen were abducted in a new deadly raid attributed to the Islamist sect in Darak.

Among the killed fishermen and/or kidnapped, local authorities announced to the military, the presence of Nigerians, Cameroonians and Chadians who were engaged in fishing in this part of Lake Chad, rich in fish.
In addition, three shepherds were killed by gunmen claiming to be Boko Haram. “The three shepherds were leading their flocks. They were attacked by Boko Haram men while driving their animals,” says our source.

Breeding, agriculture and sometimes fishing are the main activities of local populations in the Lake Chad region, classified as hazardous by the UN.

Militarily weakened, the Nigerian sect who saw their main drives destroyed by the armies of the coalition, proceeds by surprise attacks, laying bombs to continue to sow death among the population.
