The opposition party won the inter political parties tournament organized at the initiative of the D.O of Yaounde IV subdivision, Martin Locko Motassi.
This was not an ordinary football final hosted by the Minkoulou Mbida football field on the 18 May. That day in Yaounde, players defending the colors of their political parties were involved in a real football match. The teams were the CPDM (Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement) and SDF (Social Democratic Front).
The ruling party and its usual challenger disputed the final of the “inter political parties tournament” in which the National Alliance for Democracy and Progress (ANDP) and the Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (MRC) also participated. This time, the SDF won. They defeated their opponent with a score of 4 goals to 3. The SDF celebrated their victory as it should, but mostly welcomed a cohabitation of parties which is a blueprint of friendliness.
The President of the Yaounde 4th section of the CPDM Parfait Mbvoum said. “The CPDM tried their best. We hope that such events should be held most often. Now we also hope that when there is friendliness in sports, there should also be the same at the political level.“
He added: “You know, political differences should not prevent us from thinking that we have only one objective, but also the vitality of Cameroon. How do you want us to flourish in disorder? It is not possible ! The celebration of unity is concrete. We made a concrete way, “he spoke on the mic of Canal 2 International.
One that seemed the happiest in the late afternoon of 18 May 2016 was Martin Locko Motassi, the D.O of Yaounde 4th subdivision. It was he who had the idea of this competition organized on the eve of the National Day, and which has spread to other activities such as a unity walk or the round table of traditional rulers.
“Beyond diversity, there is image. We celebrate the National Day. The message is that beyond the linguistic diversity, whether cultural, whether sociological, whether political, we are the children of one mother and I rejoice that this spirit prevailed throughout this final, “said the land chief.
