On the occasion of the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Migration with the State of Cameroon, represented by Joseph Dion Ngute, Deputy Minister for External Relations, Theo Francken, Belgian Secretary of State for Asylum, Revealed, on 1 February in Yaounde, that with 11,000 inhabitants, Cameroonians represent the second sub-Saharan community in Belgium, after Congo Kinshasa.
Also, Theo Francken said that visa applications from Cameroonian students registered in Belgian consular services vary between 250 and 300 per year.
However, the diplomat noted, 70% of the documents concerning the obtaining of student visas and asylum applications from Cameroon are falsified. “The Belgian immigration policy is very clear. We are strict about those who abuse our hospitality. This is the red line of the Belgian government not to cross, “said Franken.
On the reasons for his presence in Cameroon, the Secretary of State for Asylum indicated his action is focused on an awareness campaign against the fraud of Cameroonian migrants. “Then we will sign an agreement with the Cameroonian government to improve cooperation between our two countries, especially on the voluntary or obligatory return of migrants if necessary,” explained Theo Francken.
