Cameroon – Anglophone Problem: Maurice Kamto will be the lawyer of protesters arrested in Bamenda

Written by Deckson N.

The CRM National President is part of a group formed by the Human Rights Commission of the Bar Association of Cameroon.

It was learned Monday, January 9, 2017. Maurice Kamto, president of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement will defend some of the demonstrators apprehended during the sad events of Bamenda and imprisoned in Yaounde. The lawyer is part of the group of lawyers constituted by the commission of the human rights of the order of lawyers with the aim of defending the persons imprisoned in the central prison of Kondengui, in Yaounde.

They will also intervene so that the juvenile detainees are released. On Tuesday they went to inform the commissioner of the Government of the Military Court of their constitution for the defense of their interests.

Law professor Maurice Kamto will not be in his first lawyer’s experience. He was Cameroon’s lawyer during the Bakassi Peninsula trial that Nigeria wanted to snatch from his country. The former Minister of Justice handed over the dress about a month ago to defend Equatorial Guinea in the so-called “ill-gotten gains” trial.

Teodorin Obiang, the son of Equatorial Guinean President Téodoro Obiang Nguema is accused of having acquired a patrimony for tens of billions of FCFA of public money from his country. An arrest warrant was issued against him in 2012 by the French justice which also seized in 2012 a luxurious hotel of 4 000 m2 located in Paris and attributed to the presidential family of Equatorial Guinea.

It is in reaction to these actions that this country has seized the International Court of Justice of The Hague and called Maurice Kamto to defend her.
