The organizers of the “Douala Hip-Hop Festival” had to look for another site for their event. That was after the US diplomatic mission had explained to the authorities that one of its nationals who was going to live near the first chosen site did not like noise.
The 6th edition of the Douala Hip Hop Festival, launched on Tuesday 27 December 2016 and ending on 30 December 2016, did not take place. It was dismissed from the place where it was to be hosted. “On December 26, 2016, when the Douala Hip Hop Festival (DHF) logistics team installed the equipment on the usual site of the Soppo Priso stadium in Bonapriso, a lady posing as a US citizen, accompanied by her watchdog came around the stadium. She then approached to let us know that she had “enough of the noise” that would force her to “leave” her apartment in the residence adjoining the stadium “to go to sleep at the nearby Starland Hotel“. She then committed to “doing everything so that this festival does not take place” in this place, “recounted in a statement published on December 27, 2016 by the Organizing Committee of the Festival.
Police forces sent by the governor of the Littoral region seized by the United States Embassy in Cameroon then burst into the scene of the event. They were ignorant of the authorizations which were brandished to them, and intimate to those whom they found on the spot the order to run away. The organizers of the Festival did not want to animate trouble so they changed the site of their event. They relocated it to the place called Parc des Princes, in the Bali district, not far from Bonapriso. They continue to proclaim their love for Hip Hop.
