Teachers Trade Unionists in the English sub system of education have walked out of the meeting held between them and the government in Bamenda, North West regional capital Tuesday December 27,2016, aimed at looking for lasting solutions to the problems raised by trade Unionists.
The teachers had demanded the inclusion of representatives from the South West region in the ad hoc committee created by Prime Minister Philemon Yang and the immediate release without conditions all youths arrested in Bamenda and Kumba during the strike action.
After four hours of deliberations at the conference room of the North West governor’s office, the teachers made an attempt to leave the hall but the doors were firmly locked but the teachers remained intrepid, there will be no negotiation if the people arrested are not released they maintained.
But after four hours Trade Union leaders left the meeting after getting the minister of higher education Jacques Fame Ndongo pissed off who angrily left the meeting also.
After the failed meeting, Paul Goghomu, head of the ad hoc committee issued a release calling on parents to send their children to school come second term next year but the trade unionist hold that only the teachers can call off the strike which they started.
Yaounde Lawyers Conclave Also Ends In Deadlock, Bobga Impeached
The meeting in Yaounde with Common Law lawyers was not different from that with the teachers, the lawyers who had denounced the non inclusion of the names of Barristers Agbor Felix and Elias Eyambe of Fako and Meme lawyers associations, told the ad hoc committee headed by Pierre Fogue, Minister delegate at ministry of defense that the venue must be in Buea or Bamenda.
They also asked the liberation of youths arrested in Bamenda and Kumba as well as the exclusion of some members of the committee. After failing to fulfill this, they all left in anger. Meanwhile Barrister Bobga Harmony, President of North West Lawyers Association, was Impeached by members of his General Assembly who met in an extra ordinary Assembly and decided that because Barrister Bobga went to Yaounde against the will of the lawyers, he has therefore betrayed them and could no more lead the lawyers.
They also made it clear that he should never negotiate in the name of NOWELA again.
