The strike was organized long before by the young strikers.
The people of Bamenda were determined on Thursday to disrupt the rally of the CPDM which was to take place in the Bamenda Grand Stand. As the organizers of the meeting progressed with their organization, the strikers also installed the necessary equipment to cope with the police and disrupt the meeting.
Barricades were placed on the principal arteries of the city, especially on the axis leading to the festivities where the Prime Minister, Yang Philemon, the Secretary General of the CPDM, members of the Government and several elites of the Region were expected to attend “The meeting of peace“.
To keep the forces of order which kept these barricades at bay, the breakers also armed themselves with catapults. These instruments, used for hunting, have been able to push back the men in uniforms.
The determination of these breakers to disrupt the CPDM meeting forced Jean Nkuete‘s team to take refuge in a hotel of the place. The meeting was not held and from this hotel, the Secretary General of the CPDM warned the breakers.
