The complainant, a journalist by profession, accuses the national TV channel of having disseminated images of her daughter without rights in a report deemed “unflattering“.
The information is relayed by the newspaper Kalara of Monday, November 21, 2016. The Cameroon Radio and Televison (CRTV), for three weeks, is implicated in a case of attack on the image by Ghislaine Ndjoungou, journalist by profession. The woman who filed a complaint with the National Communications Council (CNC) and the Ministry of Communication (MINCOM) accuses the CRTV reporters of “infringement and violation” of her child and calls for their sanction.
“In her application filed on 31 October 2016 with the CNC, the journalist described herself as Raphaëlle‘s mother, a 5-year-old daughter who had been the victim of “stigmatization, abuse of child images and violation of her rights to Privacy and human dignity, “reports Kalara. According to the complainant, her daughter appeared in a report broadcast on the CRTV antenna in the newscasts of 08:30 on 12 October 2016 and 12 noon on 13 October 2016. The report focused on issues related to childhood obesity .
“According to the complainant, on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, during a consultation with a nutritionist at the central hospital in Yaounde, the little Raphaëlle was taken by a team of CRTV reporters . She explains that they persisted in pointing their camera at her in spite of the categorical refusal of her doctor and her grandmother who accompanied her that day. They also refused to sign any permission to broadcast and obtained from the journalists the promise that the shooting of the girl is not the object of any form of exploitation and even less broadcast, “says the newspaper .
But the complainant said she was surprised the day after the reports were broadcast by relatives who told her that they had seen her daughter “with close-ups on her face“. She therefore calls for sanctions for these CRTV reporters.
