The newspaper reported that despite the fact that a new commissioner and a new regional delegate for prison affairs in the Region had been appointed to the Garoua central prison, nothing changed. “Promiscuity beats records. The skin of the boarders is well decorated by bodily infections like gall. Some sleep on the floor. Hunger, worries and the desire for freedom have completely transformed the physique of some. They are slowly dying on the weight of all these worries, “the paper said. To this must be added the fact that for one week they lacked drinking water. And the food ration they receive is described as “insufficient“.

It must be said that at the base, the central prison of Garoua was built to accommodate 500 prisoners, rendered to date, the newspaper said it counts 1792 inmates. On 9 March, as a reminder, the authorities of the city had to face the anger of the prisoners. Because, the prisoners were determined to break the doors of the prison to “flee the abuse“. In the afternoon of this day, the Governor of the Region went there and distributed sachets of water while promising that their grievances will be dealt with.
