The Chief of Mofokobutu, a village in Mbonge subdivision, Meme division of the South West region is under gendarme custody after he shot and killed a 25-year old boy with a gun.

The chief whose name we got as chief Cosmas, in the night of Friday 21 October 2016, shot and killed the boy whose name we could not get at press time. According to sources, the boy was searching for sugar cane in a bush when the arrested chief fired shots at him after he “mistook” him for an animal. It’s said that he only realized he had shot but a human being after rushing to pick his catch.

Sources say he immediately ran home, changed into something decent and rushed to the gendarmerie post in mbonge where he reported himself. The chief was still in detention at press time while investigations had opened.

Residents close to the fmily have hinted that the chief’s kid brother is in jail at the Kumba prison for murdering  man with a broken bottle following a brawl over a woman. The chief is said to have fought tooth and nail to get his brother released but with the situation at hand, many villagers opine that the angry gods have intervened to ruin his efforts as the brother deserves nothing but life jail, they said.
