Facing the press on Wednesday, Hugo Broos explained in detail why Benjamin Moukandjo is the captain of the Indomitable Lions. And according to the Belgian coach, this was done with the agreement of the two vice-captains.
Everyone always knew that without Stephane Mbia, one of his two deputies including Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting and Vincent Aboubakar should logically display the captaincy of the national team of Cameroon. The principle has always been obvious. Yet since the midfielder of FC Hebei China Fortune is no longer called for a selection, three players have played this role: Choupo-Moting, Aboubakar, and Benjamin Moukandjo.
“When we played against Gambia and Gabon (last September in Limbe, Editor’s note.), There are many players who were not there, because we chose to bring in players that people had not often seen. So there we needed a captain and I chose Moukandjo “says Hugo Broos. “It was a great success, said the national coach. Benjamin Moukandjo is an intelligent man, a leader, he can speak well. So I was a bit surprised. ” From this experience of September the player of Lorient in Ligue 1 of France kept “his” armband. Not because he was a better captain. But because Vincent Aboubakar would’ve more or less wanted it. “I had a problem for the game after, that is to say, against Algeria, the other players returned and it is normally Choupo-Moting and Vincent Aboubakar who would’ve been captain,” says the Belgian coach.
And to resolve the dilemma: “I spoke with Vincent Aboubakar, so says Hugo Broos. I asked him if there was a problem that Moukandjo should be the team captain. He said he found no problem with that. ” Accordingly, “Moukandjo remains the team captain,” sliced the coach.
We also learned that the two vice-captains remain the same i.e Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting and Vincent Aboubakar. Having found nothing wrong with the national coach’s approach, the MINSEP Pierre Ishmael Bidoung Kpwatt approved the change.
