An official of the national refining company (Sonara) revealed to News Du Cameroun that the company’s technical teams evaluate the execution of the extension works of the refinery, which started several months ago to 95%. He also reassured that the new plant will be delivered in time that is to say in June, 2017.
The refinery expansion will be coupled with the construction of ten bins that will keep the new plant’s production surplus since at the end of this first phase of work, Sonara plans to increase its annual production capacity. This will increase from 2.1 million tonnes to 3.5 million tonnes, says our source.
The first goal is to make Sonara play a leading role in supplying at the local level. But the CEO of the company is more ambitious. Ibrahim Talba Malla hopes to reach other markets including the South American market.
Sonara was built after independence, in Limbe, South-West. It should be recalled that the Government intends to acquire a new oil refinery in the city of Kribi.
