Cameroon is now 19th in the world rankings published on August 22, 2016.
A jump of nine places! The national women’s volleyball team of Cameroon has moved from the 28th place worldwide to 19th. The new ranking of the International Volleyball Federation was published on August 22, 2016, 24 hours after the close of the Rio Olympics.
Cameroonians seize at the same time, the first place on the continent. A position that had hitherto kept by Kenya. But now, the Indomitable Lionesses participated for the first time in the Olympics.
One will retain that Cameroon has recorded four losses in as many outings to the best nations in the world. Respectively against Brazil, Japan, Russia, Argentina and South Korea. History will record that also Christelle Nana and her teammates were far from ridiculous. After a narrow defeat (25-19; 25-22; 25-23) against Russia, 5th in the World, Cameroon stood up to Argentina (12th worldwide), not bowing at the decisive set (25 -19; 19-25; 28-26; 21-25; 13-15).
It is therefore a logical reward for Cameroon whose ambition is to win the AFCON 2017. In terms of ranking, Kenya (26th) and Tunisia (28th) completed the podium. The global leading trio is made up of China, the Olympic champion, the United States and Serbia.
In men, Cameroon (30th) earned a spot on the podium and remains in African podium. The African hierarchy is dominated by Egypt (12th) and Tunisia (24th). Brazilian Olympic champions remain in the lead in terms of the world rankings. They are followed by Poland (2nd) and the US (3rd).
