To believe this newspaper, many indicators show that Paul Biya will anticipate elections and will be a candidate for his own succession.
According to Emergence newspaper of August 3, 2016, there is no doubt about the anticipation of the presidential elections of 2018 in Cameroon. Although Paul Biya, the President in power since 1982, remains silent about it, everything is ready for the proceedings to be initiated. The Emergence newspaper reports that it’s remaining only the convening of an extraordinary session of Parliament during which the constitution will be changed. This, according to this newspaper, won’t take long to occur.
To get to this assertion, the newspaper conducted its survey of members of Elections Cameroon (ELECAM), the body responsible for the organization of elections in Cameroon. They have agreed to answer anonymously. One of them speaks in the columns of the newspaper, saying: “For a long time now, the Presidency wants to be informed daily of the progress of registration on the electoral lists. We work under the pressure of the presidency. This is normal because an election is first the electoral register. Made to date, ELECAM is ready. On August 31, we will stop registration on electoral lists. And it will be over for everyone. ”
Another member of ELECAM judged by the influential newspaper speaks with more details. “We have over 25,000 ballot boxes already prepared for the 25,000 polling stations we have on the whole territory. Part of polls comes from Japanese donations. It is the same for the polling booths that we have received. It’s all ready, “says this member.
In terms of ballots and campaign, he added that the national printing press has been revamped and together with the SOPECAM they are ready. “But the ballots and campaign posters must be made one month before the convening of the electorate,” he qualified.
The newspaper also understands that Paul Biya is already on campaign. He cites as evidence the many calls from the members of his party, the CPDM. There is also in the process, according to the newspaper, the events involving all Universities of the country, after announcing a donation of 500,000 laptops to all students. All this without forgetting the many braids and advancements distributed generously to the police.
